Future Issues

Bozeman’s K-8 enrollment declined this year due to the COVID pandemic, but has already started to rebound.  Additionally, student counts at the High School level remain strong.  The District expects enrollment to continue to grow into the foreseeable future:

To address the changing needs of our students and families, the Bozeman School District is currently exploring ongoing remote learning options for our students.  Remote learning became necessary during the pandemic, but the format may benefit some families on an ongoing basis.

The contemplated program will be strictly optional.  It will offer flexible scheduling and competency-based instruction, where students move from one learning level to the next based on their demonstrated knowledge rather than time spent in a specific course.

In addition to a unique instructional design, the online option may provide for more financial efficiencies than traditional in-person education.  Depending on participation, it may even delay the need to construct additional brick-and-mortar schools in Bozeman.

The concept is not an election issue, but rather an example of the innovative ways the District is working to meet the needs of our students and families while also making the most efficient use of our public resources.
